1.Mesen setup

Download from here:

Whenever you’re on Windows or Linux, I recommend Windows version, for the sake of portability and consistency

Unpack the executable in the new folder, call it Mesen so you know where it is, and then start the app there:
Choose “Store the data in the same folder” so we can keep it all together

Download pr8_102.zip from link above, unpack pr8_ntsc.nes from that zip package into your Mesen folder

Once you launch Mesen, drag and drop pr8_ntsc.nes onto Mesen window to start it up!

Screen will be very tiny, go to Settings→Video Size→4x so you can see what you’re doing

Let’s prepare your controls: go to Settings→Input…

in General tab, go to NES system-specific settings:

and in there press “Setup” button for NES Controller in Port 1:

Now map your buttons in either Key Set #1 or #2 to your liking!

I also STRONGLY recommend setting up key for rewinding: go to Settings→Preferences…

And in there choose button for “Rewind (Hold button)” which will keep rewinding for you until you let go of the button!
